Trophy Final - Hurstjohnians take prize

Old Hurstjohnians won the inaugural Cricketer Trophy beating Denstone Wanderers by 64 runs. Old Hurstjohnians batted first on what looked an excellent wicket at Merchant Taylor's School and their innings was held together by 76 from Jarvis. Their final total of 196 all out seemed a more than reasonable target for Denstone to chase. But a couple of bizarre run outs and good seam bowling meant they were always behind the clock. Only Gouldstone produced the application that was required with an unbeaten 67. Next highest score was 7 as Denstone were dismissed for 132. Full scores for the seson can be found here.

The Cricketer Trophy

With the demise of the Cricket World Trophy and The Brewers Cup, the committee felt that there was a need for more schools to be able to play under Cricketer Cup conditions and so Joe Ullman and Frank Russell have agreed to help eight invited schools to set up their own competition to start this coming summer. The schools invited were: Blundells, Westminster, Lancing (all former Cricketer Cup Schools) Hurstpierpoint, St Georges Weybridge, Denstone, King's Canterbury and Monmouth School. A meeting took place at the beginning of February and Blundells reluctantly felt that they could not guarantee that they would be able to fulfil away fixtures and withdrew. The idea is that for now this will be an independent competion for three years. After that discussions will be held about the possibilities of incorporating the competition into the Cricketer Cup or not.

It has also been agreed that if any sides drop out from The Cricketer Cup, then the committee will look no furhter than these eight schools as a replacement. Warwick school, the last winners of the World Cricket Trophy have agreed to replace Blundells. The draw can be found here.
